Going It Alone Doesn’t Work …

“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”  (2 Corinthians 12:9)

From an early age we try to do things our own way without any assistance and discover very quickly life doesn’t work that way.  When you watch a little baby playing or eating you soon observe their determined efforts to grab something or eat something only to become frustrated with their inability to make it happen.

When we get a little older, we still try!  And when we get a little older still when we really should know better, we still try!  And the results are the same … frustration and disappointment.  When will we ever learn …

When God created mankind, He did so with the need placed in each of our hearts that only He can offer, provide and sustain.  The wise man Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.  Also He has put eternity in their hearts …”

When God created mankind, He did so never intending for us to somehow go through this journey of life alone without any help, assistance, guidance or direction!  He created Eve as a “helpmate” to Adam when God saw that it wasn’t good for Adam to be alone (Genesis 2:21-25).

When God created mankind, He designed us with the ability to both recognize and utilize the strength, comfort and guidance that only He can give (Psalm 19:7-11).

When God created mankind, His eternal intention was for us to be surrounded and encouraged by having relationships with family, friends and brethren.

Caution must always be offered regarding right relationships … healthy friendships … companions for life … who and where we seek to worship and serve the Lord.  So the need for:

  • Folks choosing a mate very carefully to spend the rest of their life with.  Beauty, looks, intelligence and even talent, are all important, but these are not the most important traits!
  • When choosing someone to date, even occasionally, great care must be practiced by those who are dating … and yes … by those of us who have been charged by God with the responsibility for who our young people date!
  • When choosing someone to become more serious about in life … when I was in High School it was called “going with someone” … even greater care must be exercised. Will this person you’re getting serious about truly help you to become a better person … help you grow more spiritually-minded … and ultimately help you get to Heaven?

No … God never intended for any of us to try and make it through this life ‘going it on our own’!  We need Him every hour of every day as long we take a breath!

We need His Word everyday as the only roadmap that will lead one to Heaven!

We need others to lean on, look to, draw comfort from … we just need to be sure they are the right ones to lean on, look to and draw comfort from!  (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Our God created us and has made it possible for us to be living at our optimum best daily!  God spoke through the prophet Isaiah centuries ago to His people these words of encouragement and warning, “For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:  ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.’ But you would not …” (Isaiah 30:15)
