“Keep Our Babies Safe …”

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)

Facebook pictures have said it all over the past few days.  Pictures of our children and grandchildren starting a new year in their journey to a better education and preparation for life, such a happy time for parents … maybe not so much for the kids!

Among the comments I observed was one which exclaimed, “Keep our babies safe!”  Isn’t that really what we all feel keenly aware of when we consider our children?  With so much going on in our world … the violence … the sheer anger … the unpleasantness of watching people be so ugly and mean toward one another … we are concerned!

We should be concerned … but also confident in our God to watch over them and allow His care, providence and love to continue to rule in this temporary world that we all are living right now!

As a parent and grandparent … we never stop praying for our children … do we?   We appeal to our God who promises to bless us “abundantly above all that we ask or think”. There are no guarantees that our children will always be safe.  Bad things do happen to good people … even to children … perhaps, even to our own children!

Whether they are still at home or married with kids of their own … regardless of where they are in their own spiritual journey … we continue to pray … right?

Our children have souls of their own and we always want what is best for them.  The challenges lie when they are not under our watchful eyes … when they are away from us … when they must conduct themselves hopefully as they have been brought up.

As parents … we ought to be praying for their well-being, safety, spiritual growth and development, as well as their physical and emotional development.  Right?  Right!

As parents … we ought to be asking our God who is and always will be on His throne … who knows all and sees all including the heart of every one … to watch over them … to protect them … and to please keep them safe!

Things happen … life takes a dramatic turn that was not anticipated or expected … and we are at a loss as to what to do next.  Paralysis wants to seize us and take over … and if we’re not careful we will start listening to the wrong voice(s)! That is why it is so critical that we start early in teaching our babes how to get to Heaven.

Let us make no mistake … our mutual enemy, Satan … wants the souls of our children just as much as he wants ours!  That’s a very scary thought, isn’t it?

What are we to do?

We get down on our knees or go to the place where we pray often … and we solicit the God of Heaven to help us … to give us wisdom, patience, hope and the kind of sacrificial love that will do whatever it takes to help them get to Heaven!

That’s right!  We ask Him to help us to be watchful, attentive, caring and patient!  We do not have the luxury of simply going to our Lord and making our request and then not giving any more thought to what must be done.  We share our concerns and our needs with Him … even though He already knows them!

We are all human with imperfections, short-comings, and lives that don’t always plum with God’s will!  It is a reflection of what lies in our hearts … humility, recognition of our own inadequacies …and awareness of just how Almighty our God truly is that will lead us to the frequent posture of praying to God!

Yes, there are times when, quite simply, we are at a loss as to what to ask for!  We know we need help and guidance, reassurance, and the care and protection that only the God of Heaven can provide.  He is the “Great Comforter!”

The battle for our children and grandchildren’s souls is real and must be fought on the frontlines with bended knees.  The stakes are high.

“Keep our babies safe as they start school … keep our babies safe as they choose friends … keep our babies safe as they face the challenges, teachings and unkind culture we are all living in”

Little ones … tweens … teens … young adults … fully grown!  Lord, please watch over them every one and help us to always be there for them whatever challenge they may be confronted by!

“Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.” (Psalm 143:8, NKJV)
