Telling The Truth … Yes or No?

tellTheTruthAs each of us lives our short life on this earth, we will often find ourselves not knowing what to do when facing some trial, temptation or other difficult circumstance. All of these situations occur, are real and can really be challenging, can’t they?

Perhaps one of the most difficult situations in any person’s life, young or old, is to be willing and honest to simply ‘tell the truth!’ If we know we’re going to be in trouble when we answer truthfully … the pressure can be so strong … from within and from without to answer in a way other than being truthful!

We learned as little ones that ‘telling the truth’ can be painful! For me it was the north end of mimosa branch that had teeth to bite with! My mother used to tell us as we were growing up, “you don’t have to remember what you said when you tell the truth.” I don’t know if she ever read Mark Twain, but I sure know how much time she spent in God’s Word!

Learning to always tell the truth helps us to become people of integrity … people who are honest … no matter what! There seems to be a great deal of dishonesty in our time and in our culture, doesn’t there? So many are just not honest … with themselves … with others … but most importantly with God! Let’s all be careful not to fall into this ever-widening trap. Our Lord is perfect truth in every way! Our Lord does not reward dishonesty … untruthfulness … lies of any sort! He will always give us the courage to tell the truth … no matter what!

“There is no truth in (the devil). When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44).

“Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.” (Psalm 86:11).

I enjoyed reading your blog as it gave me time to reflect – As a kid I remember my dad told me that one precious thing God gives everyone is your word – Don’t give your commitment away easily, mean it when you give it. His words still resonate today. Life’s too short to do otherwise.
As kids you and I shared some great memories and I concur your Mom was strong but always fair.
I hope you and your family are all well.

You are so right about telling the truth. I was just remembering in scripture when someone said something to the Lord that was hard to answer He would remain silent at least for a time. I believe we need to take a reflective moment before we open our mouths and think about what we say. I have always been one to speak before I think and what trouble that has gotten me into. But our word is our bond and if people can’t trust what you say then you are in trouble. Sometimes it’s hard to answer truthfully when you know it’s going to hurt that person or hurt you for for your answer.
It was so good to see you guys this past week. May God continue to bless you and your family.
