We Have All Been So Blessed

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”  (Colossians 2:6-7)

I make no apologies … I am an avid coffee drinker!  The day just doesn’t seem to start right until I’ve said my morning prayer as I wake up … stumble into the kitchen … and start the Bunn Coffee Maker with Folger’s Classic!

And no surprise … we also collect coffee mugs. Not as many as we used to … but we sure have acquired a bunch of them … each one providing its own memory of when and where it came from.

On our trip at the end of summer to the Georgia/North Carolina Mountains … of course, we found a couple of coffee mugs we just had to have.

Now the one I got … my wife had picked out … asking me if it felt heavy enough … fit my hand comfortably and just generally felt right.  It did and we purchased it.  The picture at the top of this post is that coffee mug.

If you look carefully, you will find a quote … maybe you’re already familiar with it … maybe not.  It is a very humbling kind of quote that as they say on College GameDay … “gets into your grill!”

Yes, it’s that time of the year when we make our way through Thanksgiving Day with all that goes with it … including tryptophan and its exacting effect on the eyes to try and stay open!

Each and every one of us has so much more to be thankful for than we could even begin to list.  I know the song about Counting Our Blessings is so true … but if we really tried to do that … we would fail miserably!

That is just how much our gracious and loving Heavenly Father has blessed each one of us.

Thanksgiving as it appears in the Bible is not about one particular day of the year but rather is expressive of the way we should be every day of the year!

Thanksgiving is actually descriptive of those who have chosen to live a way of life identified by the Lord Himself … and to be so thankful for all the physical and spiritual blessings  … that a continuous effort will be exemplified to encourage others to be of the same mind!

Oh yes … I am thankful for Thanksgiving … and especially for the pumpkin pie with a little bit of whipped cream … a turkey sandwich and Ruffles potato chips with dip and a diet Dr.Pepper with lots of ice!

But I am thankful every day for the “love of God” demonstrated in the giving of His Son … and His Son, Jesus Christ, loving the Father so much … loving us so much … that He was willing to come to this earth … take on the form of man … and demonstrate to the world what it means to be a “child of God!” (Romans 5:1-8; John 3:16)

For this, I can never completely find the words that are adequate to express my deep love and appreciation for all that God has done … is doing even at this moment … and promises to do in the future!

“Praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord, O my soul!” (Psalm 146:1)
