What A Way To Live!

“Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.” (Exodus 38:22)

What we do with our lives matters!  The world may try and tell us just the opposite and does so with regularity.  The emergence of the ‘cancel culture’ attempts to relegate some to the place of insignificant at the very least … all the way to being ‘non-existent’ as far as having any value to mankind.

What is expressed and accepted in the world generally finds its way into the hearts and minds of some who are members of the body of Christ.  Rather than living in the world in such a way as to make a difference … the choice to take the road of least resistance leads to compromise and sameness!

The Bible contains many stories of events that happened over time since God created this world we call our earthly home involving characters named and unnamed.

The fact is, God considered each of these stories and events to be important enough to be preserved for our benefit!  Did you get that?  “For our benefit.”  Read these inspired words of the Apostle Paul found in Romans 15:4, “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”

Paul explains “these things” about other people who lived long ago were “written for us.”  So, what does that mean?  It means that as we look into God’s “mirror for the soul” we are able to learn from their lives and examples more about our own lives. And in so doing, be encouraged to keep going in the direction He wants us to travel.

We see “Bazalel,” one such relatively unknown character, being used in service to our Lord.  Even a casual reading of God’s Book reveals how God over the centuries has used individuals with all sorts of skills to further His Kingdom.

Remembering that God is the source of all our skills and talents should motivate each of us to use them in service to Him and to use them in ways that will bring Him the honor and the glory that He so richly deserves  … rather than for our own personal glory or praise!

Bezalel was a craftsman, uniquely skilled by God for work in His kingdom and the role he was assigned by God to fill was a significant role in so many ways (Exodus 36:1, 2). Bezalel was going to be leading in bringing God’s blueprint to life … to the place where He would be meeting His own people!

But Bezalel wasn’t required to do it all on his own.  He had others, blessed by God with the skills and talents necessary to bring about the Tabernacle.  In less than a year, the Tabernacle was completed!

The first craftsmen were then able to train others just as the Apostle Paul encouraged young Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:1, 2 with the knowledge and wisdom he had gained that others might learn and “go and do likewise.”

Just imagine if every member of the “body of Christ” today were as willing to be involved … dedicated in their living with purpose … as this talented craftsman named Bezalel … to please and honor God!

The good news is … we don’t have to imagine something like this!  It happens more often than we realize.  Granted, there are those members who seem to stay out on the perimeter … not too far away from God’s people … but not too close either!

But there are so many others who accept and develop the talent(s) God has blessed them with … and use them in His service! And the “body of Christ” is so richly blessed when they do.

It is as Paul writes the inspired words recorded in Ephesians 4:11-16 … reminding the brethren at Ephesus that each of them was important to the Lord and to the overall effectiveness of the congregation from God’s perspective … thus pleasing Him.

There are two thoughts we would like to emphasize from the construction of all the components making up the Tabernacle:

Number one:  Exodus 38:22 emphasizes that “Bezalel … made all that the Lord had commanded Moses.” No fanfare … no public announcement of his contribution … just doing exactly as God had commanded!

Number two:  Exodus 39:32, 42 emphasizes that “according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work.”

Our God has always known exactly what He was doing … He has never been caught off guard  … and His will and His ways are exactly how He wants things to be done!

May we all be encouraged to be more like the “Bezalel’s” of the Bible … men and women … young, old, and in between … who with the Lord on our side become more like our Savior with each new day. Being used in service to our Lord … what a way live!

“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.” (Romans 12:4-5)
