When the Law of Man Bows to the Providence of God …

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

It was a beautiful clear blue crisp morning as we walked into the County Courthouse.  Parents, Grandparents, aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces, dear friends of the family considered to be and loved as family.

Greeted by the attorney who would represent our children who were about to realize a dream … to have their prayers completely answered beyond even their expectations.  They were about to become the legal parents of a young baby boy, who was already bringing them and all of us great joy, often mixed with tears and so much happiness.

There is something very solemn that greets you when your name is called and you and your entire group make your way into the small courtroom, others watching and smiling, to stand before the judge and your pleadings are heard.  It was no different this day!

The judge smiled and watched how the couple were handling their little boy … the court reporter was watching intently and soon teared up.  Questions were asked and then answered.  Assurance was extended … documents were signed … and they are told he now belongs to them!  More tears … more smiles … more joy … more happiness.

As I stood there taking in everything about this wonderful scene, how obvious it came to me that God is so good and takes care of His own.  There is so much about the providence of God that we do not and will not be able to fully grasp this side of eternity.  I am perfectly content in trusting that He is indeed “… the God in heaven who rules over all the kingdoms of the nations and that in His hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand Him.” (2 Chronicles 20:6)

Consider these thoughts about God’s Providence:

  • It is the truth that God is in control of His universe and He can “carry out His purpose to its ultimate consummation.”
  • God can with His omnipotence and omniscience … change what happens in this world (Colossians 1:17; Acts 17:28).
  • But He will not interfere with man’s free will!
  • The providence of God involves His foresight and forethought!
  • It is God’s continuing activity of preserving and governing of the world by His goodness … wisdom … and His power!

God is not interested in providing us a good parking spot somewhere or insuring that our favorite team wins the contest!

God is interested in seeing that His will is ultimately accomplished … but does not violate the will of man or the natural laws He put into place when He created this world!

I continue to admire and appreciate those who are willing to step up and step out to accept a child born by another and love them as their own for the rest of their lives!  Yes, great sacrifice is made both mentally, emotionally, financially and even spiritually!

Adoption allows a child to experience a family environment where love reins supreme … where relationship is forged in love and to a quality of life that is beyond description!  May more who are not sure if something like adoption is possible … pray about it … talk about it … trusting the God of Heaven to show them the way.

Am I proud of my daughter and son-in-law?  Absolutely, am I ever! You see … in the courtroom what had already been arranged by the Lord was recognized as official!  The laws of men will ultimately bow before the “Great I AM!”
