Have You Told The Story Lately?

In a recent worship service we sang several of the older hymns including Tell Me The Story Of Jesus. What a wonderful and encouraging hymn! Do you remember it? Allow me to refresh your memory with the words:

Tell me the story of Jesus, Write on my heart every word:

Tell me the story most precious, Sweetest that ever was heard.

Tell how the angels, in chorus, Sang as they welcomed His birth,

Glory to God in the highest! Peace and good tidings to earth.

Fasting alone in the desert, Tell of the days that are passed,

How for our sins He was tempted, Yet was triumphant at last.

Tell of the years of His labor, Tell of the sorrow He bore,

He was despised and afflicted, Homeless, rejected and poor.

Tell of the cross where they nailed Him, Writhing in anguish and pain;

Tell of the grave where they laid Him, Tell how He liveth again.

Love in that story so tender, Clearer than ever I see;

Stay, let me weep while you whisper, Love paid the ransom for me.

Tell me the story of Jesus, Write on my heart every word;

Tell me the story most precious, Sweetest that ever was heard.

Does the wonderful story of love found in God sending His only begotten Son to die for each one of us … still incite appreciation, awe, reverence, and awareness of just what price was paid to make our salvation possible?

Have you spent time alone … in some quiet place with your own thoughts … thinking about the most wonderful story of love someone could ever hear … the story of Jesus?

Have you shared this story lately? With a friend, a spouse, a child, a grandchild, a co-worker, a neighbor, a friend, with someone, anyone who will listen?

Jesus lived the story! The apostles witnessed and then shared the story (Acts 5:42; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). The early church shared the story (Acts 8:1). And now, it’s our turn! This is our time! Would you take the time in the next few days to consider again the words of this beautiful old hymn, placing yourself in the story with Him, meditating on each word of the song, and how those words describe what He did for you … for each of us?

And then, find someone to tell it to! The more you tell the story … the more you share the story … the deeper your gratitude will be that, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).

Yes … please tell me the old, old story of Jesus … again … and again … and again! May we never grow weary of its content, motivation, and eternal relevance!
