TRUST … Chariots, Horses and God

Bridgman_Pharaoh's_Army_Engulfed_by_the_Red_Sea“Trust …It is something that can take years to earn … and just a matter of seconds to lose!”

Yes, we all know this statement to be true, don’t we! There have been times in each of our lives where someone or something has disappointed us. There have been times when we grew so accustomed to trusting others … maybe a family member, a co-worker or even a brother or sister in Christ, only to have our confidence dashed to pieces. Can you relate? I sure can!

But does this disappointment need to become the new banner under which we march through the rest of our lives? Hardly! The truth is people are people! Things are just that! But our God, the Creator of heaven and earth, is anything but untrustworthy!

Read the words of the psalmist David written in Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” This particular Psalm is the record of a prayer being offered to the Commander-in-Chief before an upcoming battle. Interestingly enough, the very next Psalm is one of praise for the victory in the afore-mentioned battle! All of us have our battles to fight, our problems to deal with, and our disappointments to overcome.

We all need to come to the place in our hearts, minds and lives where we have complete confidence in God’s ability to be all that He says He is … complete confidence that God will do all He says He will do! You see, God alone can be completely trustworthy!

  • Sometimes we feel so very alone!
  • Sometimes we feel so betrayed!
  • Sometimes we feel so weak!
  • Sometimes we feel so inadequate!
  • Sometimes we feel so angry!
  • Sometimes we feel so helpless and hopeless!

In all times, we can trust our great God. The prophet Jeremiah, who was fully acquainted with all of the above-mentioned feelings and emotions, writes in Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning: great is Your faithfulness.”

God’s people don’t boast of their own abilities, accomplishments or acquisitions, but rather in the Lord God who can alone deliver them from anything and anyone (Romans 8:31)! May we all work harder at developing our trust in the name of our great and mighty God who has and always will be Jehovah God, the great I AM!
