What’s The Rush …?

take-your-time-500“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118:24 NKJV).

Driving a vehicle in traffic can be absolutely terrifying, can’t it? It doesn’t matter whether the speed limit is 40, 60, or even 85 as it is on some stretches of the open highway in west Texas! People are not satisfied with the number that is posted! Why not? Because they are in a hurry … they want to get on down the road as quickly as they can! Places to go, people to see, and things to do! The fact is so many people are in such a big hurry, and you and I can be counted in that number more often that we would care to admit, can’t we?

What’s the rush? The Lord wants us to be ambitious. The Lord wants us to be productive. But the Lord also wants us to enjoy the blessings of each and every day! Do we really believe this to be true? Is this what God really wants for us? We don’t need to say YES to everything! We need to allow God’s Word to help us to see that it is NOT His will for us to see how full we can make our appointment book or how many spaces/lines we can amass in our calendars. It is simply NOT God’s desire for us to see just how busy we can make our lives!

When our lives speed up … when we see the world hurrying by us on every side … that’s not the time to put the ‘peddle to the metal!’ If we do, we will miss what God has set aside for each one of us to enjoy along our journey!

May I ask you to simply take a moment, take a deep breath and savor the little things … those little things that can bring you some real pleasure and satisfaction.

  • Consider a beautiful sunrise and sip, not gulp, that first cup of coffee!
  • Consider a gorgeous, blazing sunset!
  • Consider the beautiful rainbow after a welcomed shower!
  • Consider the kiss on the cheek or the warm hug from you mate, your children … and oh those wonderful grandchildren!

Remember this thought throughout the rest of this day and every other day God gives you: God’s will … the path He wants you to travel … the pace He wants you to set are always followed by His wonderful and comforting peace! Try it for a while; you’ll be glad you did! I guarantee it…

“Teach us Lord, to count our days carefully …!” (Psalm 90:12, HCSB).

You know, this two weeks that Hayley and I have had off of work for the wedding and honeymoon have really helped me to relax a bit. I have felt so much stress because there has just been so much going on for so long, and it has been beyond nice to sit back with my new, beautiful bride that God has so richly blessed me with, and take in His creation. Thank you for this post!
