Whose Hand Are You Holding On To?

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (I Peter 5:7)

It never fails to bring a smile to my face when I see it unfold before me.

It never gets old to see the relevance, the value, of the unspoken lessons watching a parent holding a child’s hand … a young couple walking together down a sidewalk … or the older couple who still feel the deep need for touch and reassurance!

“Hold my hand, please.”  Words spoken by so many parents to their small children. Spoken for a reason … protection, guidance, confidence, a reflection of love and care.

It is in the same way but of even greater importance that we be mindful of whose hand we are holding onto. Is it the hand of the Lord … the hand of the world? Just who is leading us down the pathway of life?

“The mighty hand of God”is indicative of God’s care, protection, guidance, and power to lead us in the right direction

It has been an age-old war … the war between Satan and truth. Truth comes from and is about God! His Son would say, “Sanctify them by Your truth.  Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

On the other end of the spectrum of life, the world, and mankind is the enemy of all that is good … He is called in the Bible “our adversary” for a reason …

The Devil wants nothing more than to crush you. He wants to steal from you everything you value. He wants to kill everything in your life that’s good. Ultimately, he wants to destroy you. If he can claim victory over your mind, he can eventually claim victory over your life.

Our loving God has given us divine assurance through the inspired pen of the apostle Peter in 2 Peter 1:3-4, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence …”

And it is His inspired and revealed Word that will help us find encouragement, hope, and strength in the midst of any valley. You don’t need to listen to the voices of the secular-minded, the worldly-minded or those filled with fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat.

One of the prophets of old spoke by inspiration, “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.” (Jeremiah 10:23)

We are not capable … others are not capable … to direct our steps … to show us how to live and die … to truly derive the most from this life … and how to prepare for the next life in eternity!

But God is! He made us … He sustains us … He sees and hears us … He has provided for us that which we would never be able to do for ourselves in the sacrificing of His Son on the Cross to atone for the sins of all mankind!

We need leadership … guidance to protect ourselves from ourselves! We can be deceived … have the wool pulled over our eyes to truth … and the closer to the truth the false is, makes it even more challenging.

But … we must be warned that we are even now living the dark days where evil doesn’t even try to disguise itself … where truth is what someone wants it to be … we see more and more the presence of untruths … men lie and even do so openly.

So … who exactly is leading us even now … and who exactly is leading the souls of our young even now?

We have the ability founded on the unchanging truth of God’s Book to decide who is going to have the greater influence over our hearts and minds … and those of our precious young!

You can take back any of the freedom and control of our thoughts and emotions that may have already been sacrificed to the altars of this world.

The promises of God’s Book are anchored in a message from your Creator … a Creator who never changes! His words to you in Scripture are alive and powerful. His words can break the strongholds that have held you captive for years. They can help you think clearly again. His words will give you brand-new sight.

The same God who spoke to Adam and Eve in the Garden is the very same God who is speaking to each of us today through His Son and His inspired word! (Hebrews 1:1,2; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17).

The words of an old hymn readily apply to each of us, even now:  Hold To God’s Unchanging Hand

Time is filled with swift transition.
Naught of earth unmoved can stand.
Build your hopes on things eternal.
Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
