Where Are We In Our Own Journey?

“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord your God who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.  Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river …” Isaiah 48:17-18, ESV)

It must have been quite something to see with their own eyes!  As the new nation of Israel was leaving their past behind and making their way to what was to them the Promised Land, God’s presence was visual … “a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night!”

Jehovah had made a path for His people to follow … and when followed the benefits of blessing, peace, comfort and assurance came with His guidance!  His provisions gave light to the path! His love gave comfort and reassurance!  His providence gave protection and help!

Life is a journey!  And time stops for no one!  There is no pillar of cloud or fire available for us today to see and follow!  But God in His infinite wisdom and unending love has provided for all who want it … a road map to follow … an accurate and always correct GPS that will not misdirect us!

Yes, life is a journey and each one of us is traveling down the road of life … even as we read these words!  So, how is your journey going?  Do you know where you are going?  Do you know what you will find when you get there?

I don’t know where you started from or how your journey has gone so far … but you know and most importantly God knows!  He knows … He sees … everything!  What I do know is that we can’t go back and change what has already taken place … and we can take the lessons that we have learned and move forward with more sure steps!

Our loving and Eternal Heavenly Father created us and as David writes in Psalm 103:14, “For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.”  He knows we are sinners … that we make mistakes … that we take the wrong turns on our journey … and that we have no power or ability to remedy the separation that accompanies sin.  That is why He provided a sacrifice to atone for our sins in offering “His only begotten Son” on the Cross (John 3:16)!

Our wonderful and caring Heavenly Father understands how we think, why we act the way we do … and He offers His divine truths to not only improve our journey through life, but also to successfully complete it!

Yes, life is a journey that is replete with lessons, heartaches, and disappointments of every sort, happiness, pleasure and joy.  Our journey has special moments, special people and we can treasure them up in our hearts, but we must take new steps with the arrival of a new day!

However long or short the rest of our journey is on this earth, we can be sure there will be even more lessons to learn … heartaches that will be difficult to live with … hardships we may have never thought about … and yes, occasions of joy and celebration that were not anticipated.

So … where are we on our journey through life … today?  Wherever it is on the way … we cannot go back and change the beginning or even the middle part of life.  As a matter of fact we cannot go back in time and change anything or anyone!

But with the profitability of God’s inspired good Book (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3) … we can begin today … we can start where we are and take each new step by the light of God’s Word (Psalm 119:105) … moving on in our journey with purpose and meaning!

The purpose and the meaning to our lives? Living in such a way that we can hear “Well done, my good and faithful servant enter into the joy of thy Lord!”  There is NO better ending!

“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11, NKJV)
