Honoring The God Of The Lightning And Thunder

“When He utters His voice, There is a multitude of waters in the heavens.  And He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth.  He makes lightning for the rain, He brings the wind out of His treasuries.” (Jeremiah 10:13, NKJV)

Even little children when they are old enough to talk … and to start asking those endless questions … have questions about God.  They want to know who He is … how He does all that the Bible says that He does … how He can be everywhere … know everything.

And the truth is … so do we as adults.  Who among us has not given thought to these same questions, maybe worded in different ways, but questions that we want answers to?

The Bible tells us in Psalm 19 that God has revealed Himself by two ways of revelation … by nature and by His Word.  I cannot learn from nature how God brought this world into existence, nor can we find the answer concerning the problem of sin and salvation.

But we sure can in His revealed and inspired will. (2 Timothy 3:16,17)

When we see the workings of the physical world around us … the beautiful canopy of numberless stars on a clear night … the lightning in clouds miles away … the thundering increasing as a storm draws near … could it be said of us that we are lost in wonder, love, and praise?

My friends, these are all teachable moments … for our children and grandchildren … and for us!  God needs to be emphasized to our young as alive and involved in the affairs of men and this world! He is to be loved, honored and praised.  He is to be glorified as the Divine Creator!

The next time you find yourself caught in a thunderstorm, or see a beautiful rainbow, remember that you are loved by a God who “thunders His voice wondrously, doing great things which we cannot comprehend.” (Job 37:5)

Yes, thunder, lightning, wind, and rain, along with every other element, thing, and event in this world are under His authority! If even the weather itself must obey the voice of God … well … that means the next time one of your little ones sees lightning or hears the rumbling of thunder or the sounds of strong wind and driving rain … you help them to remember just as we need to remember Who is in charge, and there is none other!

“… Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord; And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.” (Psalm 78:4)
