There Is A Resolve That Cannot Wait

“This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out.  Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11, NLT)

Every day we live, we move one day closer to eternity!  We all know it and hopefully, most of us accept this truth because God’s Book tells us so.

In years past, there have been well-intentioned ‘resolutions’ that I have made that ended up coming up miserably short.  Some made it longer and happily there were a few that survived the entirety of the year.

Time does seem to fly by, especially as we grow older.  With rapidity, the days pass swiftly and bring with them changes in the way we look, act, feel. The most important consideration of all changes ought to be that of the spiritual … growing closer to God, not further away from Him

But just as certain as time marches on … God remains the same faithful God.  The Psalmist writes these encouraging words, “From everlasting to everlasting, the Lord’s love is on those who fear Him.” (Psalm 103:17, NLT)

I have reached that place in life where one realizes there is more time behind us than in front of us … at least life on this earth.  I want more than anything else to be pleasing to my God!

And so with that thought firmly fixed in my heart, I have narrowed down any kind of list of resolutions or goals to one objective that can’t wait for the New Year.

My objective for the remaining days of my life is to walk more closely with Him who made us … provides for us all that we need both physically and spiritually … and Who we will all stand before one day at Judgment!

Each of us has the ability, the free will, to be just as close to God today as we choose to be.  Not by establishing our own guidelines, but by choosing “to walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8) and not as children of the darkness.

And regardless of age, spiritual knowledge, place in life … none of us will be able to successfully navigate this world without the help, guidance, and grace of our Lord.

Again, it would be the Psalmist who would pen by inspiration, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

The fact is that none of us can really see where we are going, or where we are headed, unaware of the dangers that might be waiting around every bend in the road of life.  It is the beam of light found in God’s Book that can safely lead us home.

So … I would ask you to reflect on your own life, where you are right now, and where you would like for your life to be… and then be willing to make whatever changes, sacrifices, and toss the weights of this life aside.   Won’t you make the choice that really has no better time to be made than right now … to “walk with God?”

You will be so glad you did for so many reasons, not the least of which will be to hear the wonderful, most beautiful, and worth-it-all words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.  Enter into the joys of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:21)

Like the old hymn entitled ‘Just a Closer Walk with Thee’ … reads:

“I am weak but Thou art strong. Jesus keep me from all wrong.  I’ll be satisfied as long as I walk, dear Lord, close to Thee.”

Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea.  Daily walking close to Thee, Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.”

God truly wants to share His heavenly home with us. How amazing!  How wonderful! How gracious!  That’s who we should want to walk with every day starting this day and every day He gives us to live!  Amen and Amen!
