“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23).
New clothes … new supplies … new teachers … new friends! Yes, it’s that time of year when our kiddos, our young and our older young head to school for the first time, for a new age level, perhaps a new school … and for some it is away to college! Exciting times, challenging times, expensive times and times for reflection!
At this time of year, there is plenty of advice being offered to both parents and students about the coming school year and this editor will have a few more things to say as the Lord permits, but for this week’s post we feel it would be most appropriate to allow the Lord through His inspired Word to give some heavenly advice and we hope that you will not only take the time to read this short passage of Scripture yourself, but that you will share it with your young and talk about its contents. You cannot know their hearts if you do not share conversation. What better way is there than to receive counsel from the One who made us, understands us and who will one day judge us!
The following reading is taken from Proverbs 2:1-15
“My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.
When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you,
To deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks perverse things,
From those who leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;
Who rejoice in doing evil,
And delight in the perversity of the wicked;
Whose ways are crooked,
And who are devious in their paths;”
The treasures to be gleaned from the mining of God’s Word cannot be put into any sort of monetary value! These treasures cannot be equaled by the thoughts or writings of any man! His Word offers to each of us “all things that pertain unto life and godliness …” May we seek the “life and godliness” for ourselves and for our young that only comes from the Lord God!
