When The Real Difference Gets Blurred

“These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.” (Psalm 50:21, ESV)

The more things change … the more they remain the same!  Right?  Right!  Just watch styles of clothing for men and women … and you will see.  I know a few men who will remain anonymous who simply hang on to their neckties and wait for the style to come full circle.  I may or may not be one of those with a few of those ties owned …

We are living in the time when mankind seems to have things confused regarding God and man.  What else is new?  But it just seems that the line is becoming more and more blurred.  The more things change … the more they remain the same!

More and more we see individuals both in and out of the body of Christ presuming that something which they like or may be pleased with would naturally be approved of by God!  The problem with this kind of faulty thinking is that it is God who is in charge … not us!

God is God!  We are not!  He is our Creator and we are the creation and that difference is a big difference from every perspective!  Regardless of one’s biblical insight  or knowledge … we must be honest enough with ourselves to learn that elevating our own thoughts to the level of God’s just doesn’t work (See Isaiah 55:8-9).

Satan understands our desires … and he is very proficient in helping us in justifying what we want.  The people of old times mentioned in our text were in fact, no different than 21st century folks!  What seems right with us can be wrong in the Lord’s eyes! The result is the lines of distinction between what is right and wrong, between God and man are blurred!

Those being mentioned in our text evidently concluded that because God had not judged them for their sinful actions … and quickly … that those sins did not matter to God!  The real problem was not with the heart of God … it was with the hearts of the people.  You see … their sins did not matter to them!  Blurred lines distorted by our adversary present themselves again!

Our God is such an awesome God in every way.  One of His perfect attributes is the fact that He is omniscient … that is to say … there is nothing that He does not know!  He is never caught off guard … never surprised. He sees and knows everything!

Psalm 139 teaches with great clarity that from the very moment we have been conceived through the entirety of our lives to the moment we pass “through the valley of the shadow of death” … you and I are under the watchful eyes of the One, True, and Living God!

Truth has become a by-word!  Truth has been wounded in the house of its friends!  Mankind has obtained such a high value of self-worth and achievement that more and more our society claims ‘there is no absolute truth!”

May each of us be reminded that personal truth is not truth … it is personal opinion!  And way too much personal opinion is being promoted under the banner of truth … the sin of presumption increases … and souls are deceived!

We can and often are deceived by our own hearts as the inspired wise man, Solomon pens in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

May we have the courage and teach ability to listen to the claim Jesus made of Himself in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

May we all realize the critical error in judgment, when we go to the “broken cisterns” of the world trying to find “the living water” of the Lord Himself.!

“Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it.” (Psalm 119:140, ESV)
