You Have One Job To Do …

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29)

On Saturday mornings during the fall of the year is a show entitled College GameDay. And it has so much information disseminated that it can be overwhelming about the day’s scheduled football games.

Facts about teams, players, coaches … and yes, even the fans!  For some, this is what they live for … all this information.  I enjoy portions, but the personal story segments are almost always enlightening, moving, and inspirational.

There is one other segment of College GameDay that I always wait for.  It is identified as You Had One Job To Do and it shows where players, bands, fans, coaches, make a glaring mistake, stumble, or fumble!  It is usually funny for all to see, except for the ones singled out!

Currently, uncertainty abounds in our society!  Charges, counter-charges, recounts, open hostility in our national election … all of these combine to create a very uneasy atmosphere for each of us to live in, especially when you factor in everything that goes along with the COVID 19 virus that seems to be making a comeback and running rampant among God’s people!

There is reassurance to be found in the awareness of the truth which proclaims that nothing goes unnoticed by our God who knows all things … He alone is omniscient.

God is the only source of ALL knowledge, understanding, and wisdom because everything we know … everything we understand … originated with Him!  He is the One who has given us the ability to know, understand and become wise!

“Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, Or as His counselor has taught Him?  With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice?  Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of understanding?” (Isaiah 40:13-14, NKJV)

In other words … there is no created being who knows enough to give the Lord advice or to instruct Him in what He should do!  What is the point?  The point is none of us has all the answers!  The fact is … most of the time we don’t even know what the question should be!

Certainly, all of these truths should be interpreted as great news to each and every one of us … and passed on to our children and to our children’s children!  You see … we know the One who knows the answers to every question of life and living!

The Apostle Paul would pen by inspiration these glorious truths:  “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33, NKJV)

  • God already knows how elections will turn out!
  • God already knows if and when a vaccine will be discovered, tested and approved to counter a virus!
  • God already knows who the very last President of this country will be!
  • God already knows when “His Son is coming to judge this world in righteousness and judgment!”

We each have One Job To Do … know the One true and living God who knows everything and obey His Word.

Our charge from the Lord … our marching orders from our Commander-in-Chief  … to so live and conducts ourselves in this life that we as “light and salt” demonstrate that “our citizenship” is found in Heaven … not in any nation of the world.

The most important knowledge for each of us … whether we have four more years, four more minutes, or four more seconds for life to exist as we know it, we must be found walking with and alongside Him. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7, NKJV)

We must be prepared and share the message of the Gospel because everyone we know … and everyone we don’t know … needs Him who does know!

“Lord God … please help us to remember that You alone … the I AM that I AM … are God … we are not!”
